Belonging in Authentic
Community

As we continue to practice being in community, we realize that God created us to be in relationships. When God created Adam, He looked at Him and said that it was not good for man to be alone. We believe that this takes life through many different kinds of relationships. When God built the church after Jesus ascended, he chose to do it through community. Let’s look at Acts 2:42-47:

"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."

This communal work through the lives of God’s people was how God chose to build the church. We simply cannot do it alone. It’s no accident that Paul used the human body to explain the church in 1 Corinthians 12. Each person brings a unique set of perspectives and gifts to the table. Simply put, we are better together.
